The Indian Prairie Public Library (IPPL) and 25 other area libraries have collaborated to purchase a collection of 2,000+ eBooks and 3,000+ audio books called eMediaLibrary. Search or browse audio books or eBooks and download digital titles 24/7 to your computer or portable device (e.g. MP3 player, iPod Touch, iPad, Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook.) View the list of compatible devices.

IPPL has recently added eBook titles just for IPPL cardholders through Overdrive's Advantage program. To view all eBook titles including IPPL's Advantage collection, login to "My Digital Account" before searching eMediaLibrary.

Looking for more EPUB (ebook) titles? Consider one of these free public domain titles! Choose from over 15,000 titles that never expire and don’t count against your library checkout limit!

**Compact disc (CD) or Playaway (digital media device) audio books can be found by searching the library catalog. If you do not find a specific title you may suggest it for purchase.

**Audio Book users can search, checkout, download and transfer audio books to your device at the library from our Audio book kiosk located near the reference database computers on the 1st floor. ** iPod users need to change your iTunes software option device to "manually manage music and video" before using the kiosk. Once transfered browse for the book by author or album title in the "Music" section of your player.

FAQs

Q: How long can I checkout a title? I receive a parameter incorrect error when trying to download an audio book. How do I fix it?
A: 1 or 2 weeks, you choose (remember there is a limit of 5 titles at one time)

Q: Can I place a hold on a title if it is out?
A: Yes, One copy per title, can be reserved with email address (You have 3 days to check out title once email is sent)

Q: Can I return them early?
A: eBooks can be returned early but audio books can not (remember you still have to remove file from your device)

Q: I am not receiving email hold notices.
A: Check your spam/junk email folder. Check your email address by logging into your digital library account, then click "My Holds" and then click "Edit" next to the title and update the email address.

Q: Do I need a computer or can I download directly to my device?
A: Except for the iPad or smart phones, you will need a computer to download and transfer the book to your device. Nooktalk.net has an article on "How to borrow books from the library using your Nook or Nook color" from your library.

Q: I get an account error saying that my account information is not valid. What does this mean?
A: This means there is a problem with authentication and you need to contact the library at 630-887-8760 ext. 241.

Q: I receive a parameter incorrect error when trying to download an audio book. How do I fix it?
A: This can be resolved by resetting the DRM (Digital Rights Management) for Windows Media Player as follows (note: follow instructions for your operating system) :

Windows XP

  1. Rename the DRM folder to DRM.old
    • click "Start"
    • click "My Computer"
    • click "Local Drive (C:)"
    • click "Documents & Settings"(About half way down the page).
    • click "All Users"
    • right-click on the DRM Folder and click "Rename"
    • type "DRM.old"
  2. Open the OverDrive Media Console
  3. Click “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade” or visit http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite. Click "play" to upgrade.
  4. Once completed, select the title in the OverDrive Media Console and click "Download"

Windows Vista or Windows 7, replace step 1 above with:

  • Open the 'Control Panel.'
  • Open 'Folder Options' and select the 'View' tab.
  • Select 'Show hidden files and folders.'
  • Uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files.'
  • In the warning message you receive, click 'Yes.'
  • Click 'OK.'
  • Close the Control Panel.
  • Click the Start button. In the 'Start Search' box, paste the following: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM
  • Press 'Enter.'
  • Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

    blackbox.bin
    drmstore.hds
    v3ks.bla
    v3ks.sec

Continue steps 2-4 above.

Q: I get a connection message saying "Connection to the Internet could not be established," but I am connected to the Internet. Why am I getting this error?
A:This problem typically indicate that OverDrive Media Console and/or Windows Media Player cannot connect to the Internet. It is possible to receive this error message even if you are connected to the Internet. The error can be corrected by taking the following steps:

  1. Configure firewalls or Internet security applications to allow OverDrive Media Console and Windows Media Player to have Internet access.
  2. Disable any web accelerators that you may be running.
  3. Add proxy server login information to OverDrive Media Console as follows:
    1. Open OverDrive Media Console and select Tools > Options.
    2. Check the box next to 'My Internet connection requires authentication.'
    3. Complete the 'User name' and 'Password' fields.
    4. Click 'OK.'
