The library recently completed its 2007 – 2010 strategic plan and has developed a new 2012 – 2014 plan. Over 1,000 library users answered a survey about library services, the staff and the building. The trustees interviewed twelve key stakeholders in the community. Staff and trustees participated in focus groups. We all studied demographics from the 2010 census, tracked library usage statistics, reviewed community services and looked at professional and societal trends - all to guide the development of the plan.
We found that our public is very supportive of the library. Our usage statistics have grown for the last five years and library visits have increased 38%. Since the renovation the library has become “the place to be.” Patrons continue to be interested in technology, popular materials and programming. We recognize the growing diversity in the community and the impact that the economic downturn has had on our community.
Four strategic priorities were identified along with four management priorities which chart the course of the library for the next several years. Annually staff will develop action plans which support these priorities and continue to move the library forward.
We would like to express our appreciation to those who completed the survey and participated in the interviews, and to the library staff who participated. Thank you to the Strategic Planning Committee, made up of Trustees Luanne Spiros, Vicki Suriano, Paul Oggerino, Crystal Megaridis, Jo Ann Schusterich and Marian Krupicka; Library Director Jamie Bukovac and Department Heads Laura Birmingham, Debbie Wordinger, Monica Dzierzbicki, Ann Stovall, Debbie Sheehan, and Marketing Coordinator Christine Cigler, for their time and efforts in developing the plan.
