The Seed Library is a collection of seeds that you can borrow to plant and grow at home. It is free to anyone who has an IPPL card. There are never any obligations to return seeds.

What seeds do you offer?

We offer a variety of flower, herb, and vegetable seeds. Our seed collection depends on donations, growing success, and seasonal changes. We have different seeds available at different times, so please check back with us frequently to see what’s new.

Where is the Seed Library?

You can find the Seed Library on the library's second floor near the top of the stairs.

How do I borrow seeds?

With your Indian Prairie Public Library card, you can checkout two packets of seeds per visit by filling out the green Seed Checkout form and turning it in at the Kids & Teens Ask Us Desk. Each packet contains enough seeds to grow 3-5 plants.

How do I return seeds?

By returning a portion of the seeds you save from your strongest, tastiest, and most vigorous plants, you’ll help keep our seed library growing. Place some seeds for the Seed Library in clearly labeled envelopes or containers. Please label your donation with a Seed Return form that you can find at the Seed Library and drop it off at the Kids & Teens Ask Us Desk. The more information that you provide, the better we can track the success of our local seed stories.

Why does the library have a Seed Library?

We created the Seed Library because we want to give our community a hands-on opportunity to play and learn together. We want to reconnect our community to the traditions of growing delicious, healthy food; to educate our community about growing, harvesting, and saving seeds; and to nurture a culture of sharing and abundance.
